The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society Radiothon, presented by the Fort St. John Co-op, will be taking place live from Festival Plaza on March 6th, 2026. This will be the main broadcast location where the station will be set up throughout the day and where the majority of donations will be collected in person.

Radiothon Goal and Purpose

The overall fundraising goal for the Radiothon is $45,000. All funds raised will go toward supporting Skye’s Place, a vital program run by the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society.

March 2026 also marks the Society’s 45th anniversary of serving the community, making this year’s fundraising efforts especially meaningful.

Skye’s Place exists to help break the cycle of violence for women and children. The program provides safe and affordable housing along with essential support services and programming. The goal is to ensure that women and children who stay at Skye’s Place leave feeling healthier, stronger, and more stable as they move forward with their lives.

Skye’s Place is supported by a combination of partners and funding sources, including BC Housing, Northwest Spirit Rotary Club, United Way BC, Shoppers Foundation, BC Hydro, the City of Fort St. John, the Canadian Women’s Foundation, Food Bank BC, and community fundraising events such as the Radiothon.

What the Radiothon is Collecting

While monetary donations are the primary focus of the Radiothon, the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is also welcoming several types of in-kind donations.

Food donations are highly encouraged. Items needed include: Cereal, Instant Hash Browns, Oatmeal, Pancake Mix/Syrup, Jam, Peanut Butter, Hamburger Helper, Flour, Coffee, Granola, Kraft Dinner, Canned Meats, Dried Fruit, Canned Soups, Chunky Soup, Canned Stews, Mr. Noodle, Shake & Bake, Rice, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Sugar, Canned Tuna, Chicken, Beef, Beans, Peas, Corn, Carrots, Canned Veggies, Hamburger Helper, Shake’N Bake, Chef Boyardee, Uncle Bens, Side Kicks, Canned Fruit, and Oatmeal.

Hygiene and household products are also in high demand. This includes shampoo and conditioner, feminine hygiene products such as tampons, pads, and menstrual cups, senior diapers, dishwasher pods (which are rarely donated but greatly needed), laundry soap, and similar everyday essentials.

For baby items, only a small number of essentials can be accepted. These include wipes, diapers, pull-ups, and formula. Other baby-related items are not being collected at this time.

Clothing donations are limited strictly to winter clothing and can only be dropped off at the Outreach Store.

Items That Cannot Be Accepted

To avoid storage and safety concerns, the following items will not be accepted:
Furniture such as bed frames or mattresses, used children’s toys, medications, books, decorations, and children’s items intended for kids under the age of five.

Volunteers Needed

This year includes a larger number of fundraising events than in the past, which means the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is looking for additional volunteers to help with events and activities.

Anyone interested in volunteering can reach out directly by email at [email protected] or complete the online volunteer form at: https://www.fsjwrs.ca/volunteer

Raffles and Incentives

As a special Radiothon incentive, anyone who donates over $50 at Festival Plaza will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a $100 Skip the Dishes gift card. This raffle applies only to donations made in person at Festival Plaza.

Charity Tax Receipts

Charity tax receipts are available for several types of donations. In-kind donations, such as food or household items, can receive a receipt as long as a purchase receipt is provided. Cash donations of over $20 can also receive a tax receipt. All donations made through the website automatically receive a charity tax receipt regardless of the amount.

Donation Methods

At the main Radiothon location at Festival Plaza, donors can give in several ways. This includes cash, credit card payments, cheques, e-transfers sent to [email protected], online donations through the website, as well as food or other in-kind donations.
