Fueling Young Minds: The 3rd Annual Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Radiothon
Mark your calendars! On Thursday, September 17th, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Fort St. John Literacy Society and Moose FM are teaming up outside Safeway for the 3rd Annual Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Radiothon.
Thanks to Rhythm Auctions we will be out for 12 straight hours, doing live broadcasts, sharing community stories, and rallying together for one essential goal: bringing the gift of reading to every young child in Fort St. John and the surrounding North Peace region.
Why Early Literacy Matters
Did you know that 90% of a child’s brain development occurs before the age of five? Research consistently shows that children who grow up with early access to books develop stronger language skills, enter Kindergarten ready to learn, and carry higher academic confidence throughout their lives.
Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, registered children from birth up to their 5th birthday receive a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book delivered directly to their mailbox every single month. It’s not just a book—it’s the excitement of receiving mail, the joy of bedtime stories, and valuable family bonding time.
$50 --> Sponsors 1 child for a full year (12 books)
$250 --> Sponsors 1 child for all 5 years (60 books!)
How Your Support Makes a Difference
While the program is completely free for local families, it relies entirely on community support and local sponsorships to keep the books shipping.
- $5 sends a brand-new book to a child.
- $50 sponsors a child for an entire year (12 books).
- $250 sponsors a child from birth until their 5th birthday—building a home library of 60 books!
Every dollar raised stays right here in our region, directly supporting children living in Fort St. John, Taylor, and surrounding areas.
How to Get Involved on September 17th
Whether you have five minutes on your morning commute or want to drop by during lunch, there are plenty of ways to participate:
- Stop by Safeway (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM): Drop your donation in person, meet the team from the Fort St. John Literacy Society, and say hi to the Moose FM crew broadcasting live on location.
- Tune In On-Air: Listen to Moose FM throughout the day to hear inspiring stories from local caregivers, program graduates, and community sponsors.
- Donate Online: Can’t make it to Safeway in person? You can donate directly through the Fort St. John Literacy Society Website.
- Challenge Your Business: Local businesses and organizations can match donations, or challenge peer businesses in the Peace region to match their contributions.
