We are proud to be a community-first media organization that values local voices and impactful storytelling. Our team is small but passionate, and we get things done.

About the Role

Energeticcity.ca is seeking a general assignment reporter to join our newsroom. This role is ideal for a self-starting journalist who’s curious, flexible and thrives in a fast-paced digital newsroom. You’ll be responsible for co-hosting a weekly show on an award-winning radio station. The segment is focused on news from the Peace River region, as well as short, daily radio newscasts covering the most important news of the day. You’ll be working with a supportive team of five journalists who are dedicated to covering stories that matter to the community.

You will help to cover daily news stories from the communities of Fort St. John and the North Peace. Stories will include local crime, court cases, press releases as assigned and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm, pitch, write, and air a 10-15 minute interview in a weekly 20-30 minute radio show.
  • Conduct interviews, verify facts, and write four clean, engaging stories per day for our digital platforms.
  • Upload articles to WordPress, following editorial style guidelines and optimizing the posts for search engines.
  • Attend and cover events.
  • Write and voice short radio news updates daily.
  • Occasionally participate in weekend on-call shifts.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in journalism and a portfolio of published work (or strong writing samples).
  • Excellent writing and interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Press style.
  • A strong understanding of journalism ethics and media law.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a digital newsroom team.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS platforms is an asset.
  • Knowledge of writing and reading for radio broadcasts is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Fort St. John or Northeast B.C. is a bonus.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Why Join Us?

This position offers a unique opportunity to build your portfolio, contribute meaningful journalism and work with a collaborative newsroom that values local reporting. Whether you’re looking to return to reporting or sharpen your storytelling chops, we’d love to hear from you.
