About the Role
Energeticcity.ca is seeking a general assignment reporter to join our newsroom. This role is ideal for a self-starting journalist whoโs curious, flexible, and thrives in a fast-paced digital newsroom. Youโll be working with a supportive team of five journalists who are dedicated to covering stories that matter to the community.
You will help to cover daily news stories from the communities of Fort St. John and the North Peace. Stories will include local crime, court cases, press releases as assigned and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Pitch, research, and report on local news stories relevant to Fort St. John and the Peace Region.
- Conduct interviews, verify facts, and write four clean, engaging stories per day for our digital platforms.
- Upload articles to WordPress, following editorial style guidelines and optimizing the posts for search engines.
- Attend and cover events.
- Write and voice short radio news updates as needed.
- Occasionally participate in weekend on-call shifts.
What Weโre Looking For
- Experience in journalism and a portfolio of published work (or strong writing samples).
- Excellent writing and interviewing skills.
- A strong understanding of journalism ethics and media law.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a digital newsroom team.
- Familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS platforms is an asset.
- Knowledge of Fort St. John or Northeast B.C. is a bonus.
- A valid driverโs licence is preferred if based locally.
